news

Nifursol (also known as nitrofuracilin) is a nitrofuran antimicrobial drug once widely used in poultry and aquaculture to prevent and treat coccidiosis and bacterial infections. However, nifursol is rapidly metabolised in food-producing animals into a toxic metabolite – DNSAH (3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid hydrazide) – which forms stable protein-bound residues in tissues. These residues pose potential cytotoxic and carcinogenic risks, leading to a global ban on the use of nifursol in food animals.

Under EU Commission Regulation (EU) 2019/1871, the reference point for action (RPA) for nitrofuran metabolites, including the nifursol metabolite DNSAH, in animal-derived food is set at 0.5 µg/kg. All products exported to the EU – such as poultry, fish, shrimp, rabbit meat, lamb and other meats – must strictly comply with this limit. Noncompliant shipments are rejected at the border.

To help food producers, processors and testing laboratories meet this challenge efficiently, Beijing Kwinbon Technology Co., Ltd. has developed the Nifursol Metabolite Residue ELISA Kit (available for tissue and aquatic sample formats). This kit uses an indirect competitive ELISA method, employing a specific antibody to recognise the derivatised DNSAH. It delivers rapid, quantitative results in just 45 minutes.

Comprehensive Sample Coverage

The kit is applicable to chicken, duck, lamb, rabbit meat (tissue samples) as well as fish and shrimp meat (aquatic samples), covering the main export matrices for poultry and seafood.

Far Exceeds EU Requirements

The kit achieves an analytical sensitivity of 0.05 ppb and a limit of detection of 0.1 ppb for both tissue and aquatic samples – well below the EU RPA of 0.5 µg/kg, ensuring reliable regulatory compliance. Cross-reactivity with other nitrofuran metabolites (AOZ, AMOZ, AHD, SEM) is less than 0.1%, effectively avoiding false positives.

Excellent Accuracy and Precision

The kit provides an accuracy of 100% ± 30% for tissue and aquatic samples, with intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation (CV) both below 10%, guaranteeing stable and reproducible results for routine high-throughput screening.

Easy-to-Use, One-Step Derivatisation

The ready-to-use kit includes pre-coated microplates and all necessary derivatisation reagents. The standardised sample preparation workflow and a total assay time of only 45 minutes make it ideal for use in farms, slaughterhouses, processing plants and import/export testing laboratories – without the need for complex instrumentation.

Kwinbon adheres to the highest international quality standards. This ELISA kit has undergone rigorous performance validation to help global food exporters seamlessly meet EU regulations.
